KETK - Karen Engledow, RN CNOR stopped by East Texas Live at KETK in Tyler to discuss how TMFHC is now CNOR® Strong – this is a designation from the Competency and Credentialing Institute CCI is the organization that gives designations to nurses, physicians, etc.
CNOR Strong means that over 50% of the TMFHC perioperative nursing staff is now CNOR designated. There are only 102 hospitals in the country with this designation, 17 of which are in Texas... though TMFHC is the only hospital in East Texas with this designation. This designation is for perioperative nurses usually (meaning nurses who handle patients before, during, after surgeries). CNOR is a definition, not an acronym. CNOR certification is defined as: "the documented validation of the professional achievement of identified standards of practice by an individual registered nurse providing care for patients before, during and after surgery."
Karen has taught perioperative education at TMF-Tyler for the last 32 years and she will be retiring at the end of February. She has, in the past, been involved with the CNOR examination, actually helping to develop the examination by contributing to the construction and assessment of test questions. Now she gets to see, once again, her work come to fruition with the attainment of the CNOR Strong designation.
