Surprisingly, even with ongoing efforts to educate women about breast cancer and the importance of annual screening mammograms, statistics show that only 67% have them performed each year. Many still do not truly comprehend the significant role it plays in the future of their health while others struggle to make time for it or are simply too frightened to have it done. The Trinity Mother Frances Ross Breast Center and Townsquare Media would like to change that for East Texas women.
We have become familiar with the statistic that one in eight American women will develop breast cancer in their lifetime (alarming fact), but do we truly comprehend that breast cancer is a curable disease when detected early (emboldening fact). Clearly - the best protection is early detection. Having your annual screening mammogram does not mean you will find cancer, it means you have given yourself the best chance possible to beat it IF you do.
From our childhood many of us fondly remember the commitment of a pinky promise in which two parties interlock little fingers in a symbolic gesture of agreement. Today, we invite your organization to join us as we launch the Pinky Promise movement in May 2015, where we hope to inspire women all across East Texas to schedule their annual screening mammogram.
As part of Pinky Promise, when a woman has her annual screening mammogram performed at one of the six Ross Breast Center locations or the mobile unit, they will receive two Pinky Promise rings; one to proudly wear to say she holds her future in her own hands and had her annual mammogram done; the second to share with a friend, family member or co-worker who will “pinky promise” to schedule her mammogram as well. Encouragement from and accountability to another individual is often times all the motivation we need to take that next step.
We hope your organization will choose to interlock little fingers with us and join the Pinky Promise movement. As you know, the Ross Breast Center mobile unit offers a wide range of available times to ensure your organization can make it simple for employees/staff/members to get screened.
For more information or to schedule a site visit for the mobile unit, please call Regina Young (903) 531-5942. She has “pinky promised” to assist in setting up times and appropriate resources for your organization.
Thank you in advance for your enthusiasm and for joining us in the fight against breast cancer.
